The total vote for Proposition 8 in California in November totaled over 12.1 million votes.
For defining marriage as between a man and a woman: 6.3 million (52.2%)
Against defining marriage as between a man and a woman: 5.8 million (47.8%)
The bad news is that there were more votes for Prop 8 than there were against it. The good news is that almost 6 million Californians wanted to keep this unfair wording out of the state constitution. It won't take many people to change their minds to make a difference in the future.
Using this map provided by the Los Angeles Times, you can see which counties supported Prop 8 and which ones voted against it. Select Proposition 8 from the drop-down list under the heading of "Available Races" for the county-by-county results.
